KEY TO YOUR HOME 2020
38 / KEY TOYOUR HOME renovations Mix it up If you can’t decide on a single colour, don’t be afraid to just mix and match. Colour blocking is a trendy way of using different colours, layering them together and simply making it work. Keep in mind that there needs to be a cohesive palette, whether you’re working with complementary colours or contrasting colours. This means that you should test it out before you commit to a rainbow of colours on your walls. Dark beauty More homeowners are warming up to the idea of using black in their homes, and it’s no longer a colour that’s relegated to dungeons and attics. When used correctly, black brings out the glamour and mystery of a home. It can make a room look elegant and sensual, all at the same time. Keep in mind that black shouldn’t be used in smaller rooms. Regal presence Purple has always been associated with royalty, and using this colour in your home can have the same effect. Strong shades of purple can make a room feel grand and powerful, making them strong colours to use in a bedroom. But go a few shades lighter and you’ll achieve a different effect. Paler purple is a great background colour as it soothes and relaxes, but still suggests a regal presence. Image courtesy of Nippon Paint Design by D’Marvel Scale
