How do you know if you have the right or wrong bed? A good mattress will enable you to feel completely relaxed, giving good support to your body and spine when lying down. You should wake up feeling that your body and mind are refreshed and rejuvenated. When you wake up feeling tired, lethargic, sore or achy in the neck, shoulders, upper or lower back, these are signs that the mattress and pillow are not suitable. A mattress that is too soft for your body weight profile will result in you feeling like you’re sleeping in a slumped position, hurting your lower back. When a mattress is too firm, it causes your back to be overly arched, and the spinal discs are not supported for regeneration at night. Pillows that are too high or low will also result in pain points in the cervical spine. What are some things to consider when choosing a mattress? Four key considerations are important in choosing a good mattress: ➊ QUALITY The mattress should ideally be made using high-quality and naturally sourced sustainable materials, without the possible harmful effects of classic metal springs or synthetic foam, so that there’s no electromagnetic field radiation or chemical off-gassing when you are sleeping. With more than 30 years of healthy sleep experience, dormiente is a market leader in Germany when it comes to natural latex mattresses and orthopaedic bedding. Our organic natural latex mattresses are GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard)-certified and able to provide unsurpassed all-point elasticity so that the mattress moulds to your body’s curves naturally. The mattresses are handcrafted in Germany, tested free of 200 types of harmful chemicals, and perfect for allergy sufferers, being anti- dust mite and mould-resistant. Having chronic back pain? dormiente’s best-selling Natural Classic Orthoform Female and Male Mattresses provide orthopaedic support in seven body zones and are recommended by the German Association of Back Posture Trainers to help with the regeneration of the spine. ➋ FIRMNESS The correct mattress firmness ensures that your body is supported in a natural position, with good spinal alignment. Babies, children and adults require different types of mattresses for good body weight support and even pressure distribution. You can even select different mattress firmnesses for you and your partner. ➌ DURABILITY Natural latex has good elasticity and is able to respond exactly in the areas where pressure is exerted. It can spring back to its original shape when you change position during sleep. This helps to ensure the mattress has better durability and a longer life span. ➍ VENTILATION With the high humidity and hot weather in Singapore, the open-cell structure of natural latex mattresses have pinholes that enable good ventilation. Coupled with a good mattress cover made with certified organic cotton and pure new wool, the moisture-balancing properties enable efficient airflow, absorb sweat and prevent you from “sleeping too warm or too cold”. The mattress cover can also be removed for cleaning, or simply air it under the hot sun.
