Conceptualised in 1968 at the height of the Pop Art movement, the Sacco bean bag has become an icon in furniture design. At once unstructured and aesthetically versatile, this piece of furniture can be moulded to any position of relaxation – making it popular with homeowners of all stripes. In fact, the Sacco bean bag has earned positions in the permanent collections at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Triennale Design Museum in Milan.
To mark the bean bag’s 50th anniversary, W. Atelier and Zanotta together with DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) is on the lookout for talented local designers to reimagine the Sacco bean bag. 10 designers will be shortlisted to design and produce their version of the Sacco chair, which will be showcased at the W. Atelier showrooms and at the National Design Centre. The top 3 designers will be exhibited at the Zanotta showroom in Milan.
