If you’re looking for a place to rent at the heart of Singapore, Weave Suites — Midtown may be just what you’re looking for. With a variety of suite options for singles and couples, shared facilities like a communal kitchen and a gym, and weekly housekeeping to take cleaning off your hands, these new rental suites have a lot going for them.
Originally launched in Hong Kong, Weave Suites has now made its way to Singapore, bringing in a whopping 65 suites located at the heart of the city’s arts and culture hub in Kampong Glam.
They call themselves “a fully integrated lifestyle rental accommodation,” which essentially means they’re rental suites that come with a mix of hotel-style services (like weekly housekeeping) and condo-style facilities (like an in-house gym and private meeting spaces).
The suites also offer flexible leasing arrangements. You can stay for just a month—if you need a temporary home while renovating, for instance—or make it your long-term home. One thing that’s worth noting: the monthly rent is more affordable if you stay longer, with a lease of at least one year being the cheapest option.
Now that we’ve gotten the basics out of the way, let’s take a look at the Weave Suites — Midtown location, the suites themselves and the shared facilities and services. The location: Kampong Glam
As much as we love our heartlands, we can’t deny how handy it is to stay somewhere so central. Weave Suites — Midtown is located just a 10-minute walk from Bugis MRT, making all of Singapore easily accessible by train. It’s a fantastic location for working professionals considering the proximity to office spaces in the CBD as well.
Kampong Glam itself is a lovely area with an artsy vibe, offering trendy cafes, yummy restaurants, inviting bars and independent boutiques.
If exploring the neighbourhood isn’t your priority, you’ll find plenty to do at Weave Suites too, with regular community activities offering opportunities to bond with fellow residents and make some new friends.
The suites: Loft rooms and terraces
Now let’s get to the reason you’re reading this: the suites themselves!
Weave Suites — Midtown comes with a total of 65 suites, with some available for single and some for double occupancy. The smallest option is the Urban Suite, meant for a single occupant with a single bed and private bathroom, the space spanning 120 square feet plus an additional terrace area. We find that it’s somewhat costly for a single occupant, however, with the rent ranging from $2,520 to $2,800 a month.
The other suites can all accommodate two people and are equipped with a queen-sized bed. We find them to be much more worth the money since you can split the rent with a partner, be it the Premium Suite (starting from $2,880 a month), the One Bedroom Suite (starting from $3,780 a month), the Garden Suite (starting from $3,870 a month) or the luxurious Loft Suite (starting from $4,320 a month).
We got up close and personal with the Loft Suite earlier this week and found it to be cosy and surprisingly spacious. The bedroom is tucked away in a romantic loft area upstairs, with hidden storage behind the wall panels, generous desk space and quite a few charging points, plus a TV.
More storage space can be found in the Loft Suite’s dry kitchen, which comes with a good number of cabinets and drawers, as well as a sink, a kettle, a microwave and even a washing machine. The kitchen doesn’t come with any major cooking appliances, as cooking is done downstairs in the communal kitchen (more on that later).
A small island can be found opposite the kitchenette, perfect for a quick snack or to be used as another work zone, with a second TV right beside it. The en-suite bathroom is small but well-designed, with quite a lot of shelving and a cabinet under the sink for extra storage room.
Overall, we really liked the Loft Suite and would have happily stayed on longer. The only thing we didn’t appreciate during our stay was the smell that still lingers in the suites and throughout the building from the original construction, indicating that the carpentry is off-gassing and the air quality isn’t very good. If you’re thinking of moving into Weave Suites, we’d absolutely recommend getting an air purifier!
The shared spaces: Kitchen, gym and meeting rooms
As we mentioned earlier, the in-room dry kitchen only comes with a sink and a couple of basic appliances. Instead of smoking up the room with a stir-fry, cooking is done in the communal kitchen downstairs, which has three separate cooking stations and a really generous island counter.
It’s connected to the spacious lounge areas next door, where you can dine, hang out with friends and bond with fellow residents. This open-concept dining area also serves as an airy meeting and working space, with a welcoming ambience that invites casual conversation.
Other nearby areas include the reading nook, a couple of private meeting spaces (perfect for more intimate meetings and phone calls), laundry facilities and of course the gym. The latter is nice to have and definitely convenient for early morning or late night training sessions, but it’s rather small and has very limited equipment—weights, a treadmill, an elliptical machine and a functional trainer.
The off-gassing was also unfortunately very noticeable in the gym, likely due to the flooring material. The smell will fade over the next couple of weeks, but that doesn’t mean the off-gassing is done; in a space dedicated to exercise, low air quality isn’t ideal.
Coupled with the small size and limited equipment, we found this to be one of the less impressive facilities and would recommend using a different gym outside of the building.
The services: housekeeping and community events
Of course, you’ll have access to plenty of handy services as a resident at Weave Suites — Midtown. Weekly housekeeping is at the top of our list, taking your mind off cleaning so you can focus on enjoying your new home!
No need to worry about maintenance and repairs either; you can easily engage maintenance services through the Weave app, which can also be used to schedule additional cleaning (with a fee).
The Weave app is quite handy for residents in other ways too, allowing you to find out about community events and special activities happening in the building, so you can connect with your neighbours and never have to worry about feeling lonely.
Security personnel and 24/7 CCTV are there to keep you safe and sound too. It goes without saying, but high-speed Wi-Fi is available in every room and throughout the building as well.
To give you a better understanding of what we’re talking about, we put together a video touring the Loft Suite and the rest of the Weave Suites building. Watch it below!
