Merci Marcel Orchard Is A Romantic Haven Tucked In The Heart Of The City

Multi-concept lifestyle brand, Merci Marcel, introduces a new flagship store at Palais Renaissance, Orchard Road. The newly-launched restaurant-cum-concept store is an impressive work of art, skilfully put together by designers and retailers from all around the globe. With the tropics as a central motif, one cannot miss the explicit wood design details and the toasty yellow lighting, reminiscent of golden sunsets. For a local touch, Merci Marcel Orchard also incorporated designs inspired by bungalows from the 1950s.

Venture a little further into the restaurant and you will find a floor-to-ceiling island bar bathed in a reddish-brown mahogany and accompanied with suspending vines, giving the towering centerpiece its intended tropical charm. The surrounding café space is a creative blend of European furniture and textiles with tropical elements, from vintage Danish dining chairs to umbrella lamp shades from French furniture brand, Honoré Déco. At the lounge stands a hard-to-miss, dazzling pink Rosé Wall – a wooden shelf lined with more than 1000 bottles of French Rosé.

MERCI MARCEL winter garden

A highlight of the outlet is the Winter Garden, the air-conditioned alternative to the restaurant’s patio. The Winter Garden overlooks the calming greenery of the Royal Thai Embassy, providing guests with a tranquil escapade away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Hanging over the space is an intricately handwoven rattan ceiling by Indonesian artist, Lim Masulin, effectively enhancing the overall tropical ambience.

Adjacent to the restaurant is Merci Marcel Orchard’s concept store, boasting an extensive product catalogue of over 700 lifestyle products in its 600 square feet space. Guests can find unique wares from all around the world, ranging from actual furniture pieces to crafted knick-knacks.

When the hunger pangs hit, tuck into delectable dishes from an exclusive new menu devised by French Consultant Chef Nicolas Nguyen Van Hai. Begin with refreshing starters like the Beetroot Carpaccio and Wild Trout Gravlax ($11) – seasoned fresh trout from Norway fjords, topped with beetroot carpaccio and homemade honey and vodka marinade. Not to be missed is an improved version of Merci Marcel’s signature French dumpling pasta – Ravioles de Royans, Palais ($18) – soaked with a new frothy foie gras emulsion, and complete with chunks of foie gras and Tête de Moine cheese, a mouthwatering delight exclusive to this outlet. For a sweet finish, order the Crème Brulee ($10), specially made with Werther’s Original candies and Merci Marcel’s homemade salted caramel.

Don’t forget to complement your meal with beverages from Merci Marcel Orchard’s dedicated cocktail, beer, and wine menus. Options include organic beers from Maddam – a craft and organic beer company in Chablis that offers all-natural, non-filtered, and non-pasteurised beer; and refreshing tipples like the La vie en Marcel – a concoction of Fair gin, lime cordia, egg white, pear nectar, lime juice and pear liquor. Ensuring that there is something for everyone, Merci Marcel Orchard also offers soft drinks selections for non-alcohol options, such as the Innate Water ($6) – an organic-certified infused pure Alpine water with supper fruits and birch tree sap.
