Are you a design student? Are you currently in your second or third year of university? Are you based in either Australia, Cambodia, India, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam? Then this is your time to shine!
The American Standard Design Award (ASDA) 2022 is calling for entries and awaiting the best designs across Asia Pacific. Organised by one of the most prestigious and iconic sanitary brands in the market, the contest is looking to reward designs that are multi-functional and fuss-free, embodying hygiene and wellness in the bathroom.
Students are encouraged to submit their entries in one or both of the award categories: Residential Bathroom Space Design and Hospitality Bathroom Space Design.
The submissions are expected to showcase an eye for attractive aesthetics, seamlessly blended with functionality. This of course includes a consideration of comfort, convenience and high health and hygiene standards. At the same time, the judges will also be on the lookout for the kind of user-centric design philosophy that guides American Standard in delivering bathroom solutions that combine thoughtful designs and innovative technologies.
Among the selection criteria is how feasibly the design solutions can be applied to real-world spaces, aided by parameters that are highly defined. For instance, the Residential Bathroom Space Design category envisions a bathroom in a high-rise condominium, targeted at young families with children aged between four and eight. The Hospitality Bathroom Space Design category, on the other hand, is looking towards boutique hotels and resorts, considering the impact of the design on guests.
Encompassing all of these facets of a well-rounded design is the theme for ASDA 2022: Purposeful Design—Transforming the Way We Live.
As for the motivation behind the prestigious award, Antoine Besseyre Des Horts, Leader of LIXIL Global Design in Asia, has a little something to share. Celebrating over 140 years of quality and cutting-edge development, the brand wanted to provide budding designers with the opportunity to “showcase their creativity and innovation by developing purposeful solutions” all across the region.
The ASDA will allow the design community to collaborate, push boundaries, and create solutions that meet the needs of an ever-evolving world. “In the process, they also get mentored by renowned industry experts.”
All entries will be assessed at a national and then regional level. The judging panel, made up of expert designers, will select the first prize for each category in each country, which will then enter the regional round and compete for the grand prize of US$3,000.
In Singapore, the judges are Prof. Keat Ong, Founder of Nota Design Group; Mark Wee, Executive Director, DesignSingapore Council; and Shaan Ng, Leader, Marketing, Singapore, LIXIL Water Technology APAC.
The closing date for all entries is 10 February 2022. For more information, click here.
