Chinese New Year is often framed around reunion dinners, mandarin oranges and the ritual of spring cleaning. Amid reunion tables and festive décor, the bedroom remains the understated space where renewal truly begins.
In many homes, changing the bedsheets before Chinese New Year is more than a practical refresh. It is often practised as a symbolic reset, it becomes a way of sweeping away the old and welcoming new energy. As conversations around wellness grow louder, so too does the understanding that good sleep is foundational to good fortune, clarity and resilience.
We speak to Melissa, founder of BedTribe, about bamboo bedding, design collaborations and why the act of remaking your bed may be one of the most powerful rituals of the season.
Q: Bed Tribe has built a loyal following in Singapore. For readers discovering your brand for the first time, how would you describe what the brand stands for today?
Melissa: At BedTribe, we are an innovation- and customer-centric brand dedicated to enhancing lives through high-quality rest.
For those new to our community, three pillars define Bed Tribe today: material superiority, elevated design and hotel quality at home. We focus exclusively on premium bamboo, chosen for its natural cooling, breathability and softness — qualities especially suited to Singapore’s humidity. At the same time, we marry these functional benefits with sophisticated aesthetics through thoughtful collaborations, including our work with Onlewo and most recently Ochre Home, bringing timeless, design-forward pieces into modern homes. Ultimately, our mission is to offer accessible, hotel-grade sleep essentials that fit seamlessly into daily life — because bedding should be both a functional sleep aid and a stylish centrepiece within your sanctuary.
Q: What was missing in the local bedding market when you first started, and how has your perspective on “good sleep” evolved since then?
Melissa: When we started, the market lacked accessible premium sleep products designed specifically for our tropical climate. Many offerings were either traditional in material or positioned at very high price points. There was room for innovation.
Over time, my view of good sleep has shifted. In Singapore’s humidity, cooling and breathability aren’t luxuries — they’re essential. Sleep is also more than just a mattress; it’s about the full experience, from how your sheets feel to how your body stays comfortable through the night. And finally, performance and design should go hand in hand — high-quality bedding can be both functional and beautifully considered.

Cooling, breathable and thoughtfully designed — BedTribe believes great bedding should feel as good as it looks, turning everyday rest into a ritual of renewal.
Q: The latest launch with Ochre Home feels like a natural meeting of minds. How did this collaboration with Geraldine come about?
Melissa: Our journey of collaboration truly began with community. At our first Christmas event in 2022, we met many supporters individually and heard their feedback directly.
While we are known for our premium solid-coloured essentials, customers frequently requested more expressive prints. I’ve always been drawn to abstract art, and I was captivated by Geraldine’s work at Ochre Home.
We intentionally took time to find the right creative partner. When Geraldine shared my vision of “Where Art Meets Rest”, it felt aligned.
This collaboration allows us to move beyond solids into curated abstract prints, pieces that function as art within the bedroom.

Q: What specific details in the “Gust Over The Plains” collection reflect both brands’ sensibilities?
Melissa:
The collection embodies “Where Art Meets Rest” in three key ways.
We use our signature Iced Bamboo fabric, ensuring the cool, breathable and eco-conscious experience our customers trust. Geraldine’s earthy abstract artistry is integrated directly into the print, transforming bedding into a canvas.
And we worked towards a sophisticated harmony — fulfilling requests for prints while ensuring the overall aesthetic remains timeless and suitable for contemporary homes. It celebrates how high-quality sleep essentials can exist comfortably within the language of interior design.
Q: Were there any unexpected learnings while working on this collaboration?
Melissa: Like many creative projects, our initial roadmap shifted along the way. But maintaining open feedback and flexibility allowed us to pivot thoughtfully.
That willingness to adapt ultimately resulted in our most successful launch event to date. It reinforced that collaboration is not just about aesthetics, it’s about shared values and trust.
Q: Chinese New Year is traditionally a time for spring cleaning and restoration. Why does changing bed sheets hold symbolic meaning during this period?
Melissa: Spring cleaning has always symbolised clearing away misfortune to make room for prosperity.
Changing your bedding carries layered meaning. It is about sweeping away lingering negativity, but also about emotional transformation. A fresh set of smooth, breathable sheets immediately changes how a space feels.
Because CNY marks the arrival of Spring, new bedding represents a home reset. You wake up in a refreshed environment, ready for new opportunities.
It is a small act, but it sets the tone for the year ahead.
Q: Do you personally have any CNY rituals in the bedroom — colours, habits or styling choices?
Melissa: I have always loved classic white sheets, but collaborations have encouraged me to embrace colour and texture more boldly.
The Peranakan-inspired Onlewo collection and “Gust Over The Plains” bring vibrancy that subtly shifts the mood of the home during festive periods.
That said, balance is key. Even when introducing prints, we ensure the cooling bamboo fabric remains central. A bedroom must still feel restorative. It should be a place to retreat and recharge, especially during a busy festive season.
Q: For readers preparing their homes for CNY, what should they look for when refreshing their bedding?
Melissa: Think beyond just new sheets. A true reset involves textile care and hygiene.
Professionally clean carpets and upholstery. Vacuum and dust mattresses. Wash or dry clean duvets to maintain loft. Deep clean pillows where possible.
When selecting new bedding, prioritise breathable materials suitable for Singapore’s climate. A visually beautiful set means little if it traps heat.
The goal is to create a clean, healthy and comfortable environment — one that supports quality rest.
Q: Looking ahead, how will Bed Tribe evolve this year?
Melissa: We are focused on meaningful storytelling and partnerships that elevate the sleep experience.
Following the success of “Gust Over The Plains”, we are developing new collaborations with designers to introduce fresh aesthetics while maintaining our core in premium bamboo.
We will also continue refining our collections and deepening our engagement with our community.
Ultimately, our aim remains unchanged: to help every household experience hotel-quality rest at home — season after season.
Ready for a fresh start? Give your bed the glow-up it deserves at BedTribe.
