Marble exudes a classic beauty which plays up the aesthetics of any room. The family living in this prestigious unit nestled within Marina South has an affinity for this gorgeous stone, and therefore specified it for their new home. Helming the renovation of this condo is designer Eva Ng from DISTINCTidENTITY, and she reveals: “The homeowners are very fond of marble textures and the design brief entailed including it into the design. They wanted a luxurious and modern feel on the whole.”
The lavish treatment of marble has been mostly applied to the walls, as the unit itself came with marble flooring. Featured in the communal zones and down the hallway, the magnificence of the marble veining creates a real statement, and the use of real marble, rather than marble-effect materials, further elevates the scale and elegance of the place.
As the main feature of the hall is the ceiling, Eva explains that reflective gold-plated inlays were added to boost the luxe appeal of the home. This metal detailing was also carried over to the walls.
These sophisticated trimmings not only introduce sleek uniformity to the space, they play up the multi-million dollar view of the balcony. No doubt the highlight of the home, the first of several balconies is located next to the living area. It has been transformed into an alfresco dining spot to better capitalise on the high-rise view. Eva says: “The homeowners get to enjoy meals at their balcony, especially at night with the breeze and idyllic night view. It’s a real pleasure to unwind with the relaxing sights and sounds of Marina Bay.”
Heading into the private zones, the marble slab feature wall takes one through a beautiful labyrinth-like hallway. With such attention bestowed to usually neglected areas like the corridor, this home presents a truly grand visual statement all around.
The same grandiosity emanates from the master bedroom where a lofty feature wall scales the room. “We went for an upholstered soft finishing for the wall to render a plush and cosy look for the bedroom,” Eva explains. The addition of metal inlays within the upholstered wall echoes the treatment in the communal zones, and the herringbone pattern further elongates the ceiling height visually.
With its curved details and ornate gold accents amplifying the posh ambience in the room, the bed frame is perfectly matched with the gorgeous accent wall. Though the frame seems custom-designed for the space, it was actually a ready-made piece. This is a testament to the resourcefulness of the designer and how her trained eye helped to create a cohesive setting.
As much of the custom-built fixtures including wardrobes, kitchen carpentry and bathrooms were provided by the developer, the new luxurious embellishments proposed by Eva fall in line smoothly with the entire design scheme. This made all the difference in turning this dwelling into a spectacular living space to luxuriate in.
