A newly built 4-room HDB flat gets a luxe and inviting overhaul

Living room (above)

While the flat is new, it wasn’t a particularly appealing space when the owners got their keys. It was also on the smaller side so the family requested a refresh that would make it look like an airy and upscale condo unit.

The team relied on modern, clean lines and a creamy palette for a polished look, adding warm lighting for an inviting ambience and mirrored panels throughout the common areas to further open up the space.

Large porcelain tiles from Hafary were placed on the floor. The team introduced grooved textures along the feature wall in the living area to provide another layer of visual interest. Above, the fan and sleek light strips from Lightart Studio blend seamlessly into the contemporary interiors.

Kitchen (above)

The walls enclosing the dry kitchen were hacked to create a more open feel. At the same time, clear sliding glass panels were used to separate the wet and dry areas, preventing noise travel and cooking fumes from wafting out of the cooking space.

The team fitted the kitchen with generous storage cabinets for utility, opting for light colours, curved corners and sleek cabinet fronts to avoid making the space feel cramped. As the kitchen gets used a lot, hardy quartz surfaces were chosen for the countertops and backsplashes, making meal prep a worry-free experience.

Household shelter (above)

The shelter was clad in cream-toned panels on one side and mirrored panels on the other, laid out in a staggered pattern to diminish the bulkiness of the structure. The mirrors offer additional benefits, making the communal space appear larger and reflecting light to brighten the room.

Bathrooms (above)

Both bathrooms in the house were styled similarly with neutral colours to make the spaces look bigger. The original folding doors were replaced with full-sized timber doors and new vanities were created with quartz countertops and low-maintenance undermount sinks. Underneath, generous cabinets provide plenty of room to stash toiletries.

Bedroom (above)

An L-shaped wardrobe offers as much closet space as possible and is fitted on one end with a niche that doubles as a side table next to the bed. A custom headboard spans the rest of the wall for a widening effect, while its vertical design draws the eye upward to elongate the room.

Soft ambient lighting was installed overhead, behind the headboard and within the niche, illuminating key points in the room and adding a cosy element to the restful sanctuary.
