Now that the festive celebrations are coming to a close, a thorough spring-cleaning session is in order to get your place back into its original form. Here are some tips on how to quickly achieve balance in the post-Christmas chaos and just in time for the New Year.
Greasy build-up on a kitchen stove
Stained and dried up food and grease on the stove can be very easily removed with a cleaning sponge. Soak it in warm water and scrub away. It is important to always ensure that it is damp enough to facilitate better.
Bad smelling microwave
To remove the bad smelling aroma from the microwave, leave a glass with water and lemon juice for 5 minutes at the highest level in the microwave. The lemon water evaporates and soaks up the dirt. Then just wipe the curtains.
Dirty kitchen appliances
Over time, chrome or stainless steel kitchen appliances such as toasters collect dust and become sticky. To remove, dampen a soft sponge and add a little baking soda to it before cleaning the appliances.
Dust mite prevention measures
To prevent dust mites, your mattress should be rotated every two weeks. Your bed sheets and pillowcases should be washed at least once a week in hot water as dust mites thrives in cold water.
Vacuum sofas
Food debris tend to get collected under cushions, so it is a good idea to vacuum under them on occasion. One excellent tip would be to spread salt on the sofa before vacuuming, as it will help release dust and dirt easily.
Removal of pet hair
Pet hair can be quite a nuisance and can be difficult to remove from fabric or microfiber couches, chairs, and other furniture. Removing pet hair from any cloth surface is easy with the use of a rubber glove or a damp washcloth. Wipe the surface in one direction only and the hair will just pile up and can be easily picked up by hand.
Dusting of cabinets and shelves and nightstands
Moisten a microfiber cloth with water and wipe off dust from your table, fan, floor lamps as well as blinds and shades. Do not forget the flowerpot at the corner of your living room too as these tend to collect plenty of dust.
Shower curtains
Did you know that you can wash your shower curtains too? Set your washing machine to 30 degree Celsius and throw in your dirty shower curtains. It is important to note that detergent should not be used. You can do this right at the beginning, while you devote the rest of your cleaning time to the other parts of your bathroom.

Often, it is inevitable that mould stains in the bathroom are bound to happen. In order to tackle these unsightly mould stains in the shower, you can easily clean them out with tea tree oil. Simply soak a cotton bud in the oil and rub it on the affected area.
