These New Parents Designed their Kitchen with Top Appliances for Stress-Free Cooking

The homeowners needed a kitchen that would fit their needs as new parents and budding cooks. Learn how they worked with their designer to outfit their kitchen for convenience and success.

For their kitchen renovation, homeowners Wenqing and Steven conveyed to their designer Henry Yew, Associate Director of Index Design, that they wanted their cooking space to be the heart of their home where memories can be made with family and friends.

They wanted an open kitchen and an island, but as new parents who were also learning to cook, they knew the appliances played a big role in ensuring that every meal would be stress-free and tasty. Ahead, they share their best kitchen decisions.

What’s your favourite part of the kitchen now that it’s completed?

Sleek yet highly efficient, this well-equipped kitchen is outfitted with a combi steam oven, warming drawer, induction cooktop with integrated fume downdraft as well as a jumbo fridge and freezer from V-ZUG.

Wenqing: My dry kitchen as everything functional is within my reach. I have ample space to do meal prep using the V-ZUG Fusion induction cooktop and Combi-Steam oven for cooking while watching my little one running around the living area!

What were the challenges when renovating this kitchen?

Henry: They are the perfect clients for designers. They trusted us and gave us room to design without many restrictions from start to completion. We completed the house during the earlier months of the Covid pandemic when manpower and delivery of materials were big challenges.

When it came to choosing the appliances for this kitchen, how did you decide what to pick? Why did you choose V-ZUG?

Jumbo T refrigerator and Iglu T freezer with seamlessly designed doors to match the kitchen carpentry.

W: I wanted appliances that are very practical but also good for someone who did not know how to cook. My priority was to have trusted appliances that would help me on my learning journey of becoming a new mum at that time.

H: We already knew what we wanted to achieve from the beginning—a modern and clean open-concept kitchen. We picked some of the best materials in the market to use here, and we knew we had to complement them with the right appliances to achieve the desired result. I admire V-ZUG for its clean and minimalist look which goes well with my design concept for their house.

Can you show us some of your favourite appliances? Why are they your favourites?

For heavier cooking, the wet kitchen is equipped with V-ZUG’s wall extractor hood with long flue and a three-burner gas cooktop.

W: The combi-steam oven. It can literally do everything. My favourite function on it would be the regeneration function. It automatically adjusts and reheats your food to crisp or moist perfection all at the touch of your fingertips. The baking temperature holds so evenly that even as a beginner, my bakes come out looking and tasting great!

H: It has to be the sleek-looking V-ZUG FUSION induction hob with integrated downdraft which is installed on the island’s black granite top. It does away with a wall extractor and is a great appliance to consider for open-concept kitchens.
