Working from home can be pretty hard on your back, neck and shoulders, particularly if you haven’t invested in a proper setup. That’s what prompted the creators of EverDesk to launch their innovative standing desk. Of course, we couldn’t resist giving it a try—here’s what we found over the last few months.
The EverDesk prides itself on its ability to go from your typical sitting desk to a standing desk at the touch of a button, with the option to adjust the table height to suit your exact preferences. We found the up-and-down movement to be immediate and smooth, allowing for quick and fuss-free transitions throughout the workday.
The adjustment wheel comes with three custom presets that can be changed over time, so once you discover your ideal desk height, you can save it and easily find it again. It also boasts a built-in Health Coach to remind you to switch positions for better health, a feature many homeowners are sure to find helpful.
Beyond the smart features, the desk has an intuitive cable management system that effectively eliminates clutter and maximises the surface area. The entire desk can be customised to suit your work style with a wealth of optional accessories, including monitor arms, lights and pegboards that attach to the edge of the desk to save even more space. Many of these accessories have come in handy during our working hours, but unless you have multiple monitors and a lot of stationery to keep on hand, they are not must-haves.
Of course, the EverDesk does have its downsides too. One of the things the desk is lacking is a set of tailored, comprehensive instructions. For instance, when we experienced an issue with the adjustment wheel, the instructions made no mention of the wheel and instead referred us to a series of buttons that do not actually exist on this model, which made solving the issue somewhat confusing.
The website could also use a more robust troubleshooting section, as it currently doesn’t offer any advice for dealing with specific error codes on the adjustment wheel. We eventually reached out to customer support and found them very kind and helpful, but a more comprehensive set of instructions would definitely have streamlined the process.
The only other aspect of the desk we were disappointed by is the material of the surface, which already shows a few scratches despite being used with much care over the past few months. This is not a deal-breaker by any means, but knowing the visibility of these scratches (as well as dust) on the dark surface, we would have opted for a lighter colour—and we suggest you do the same!
Minor grievances aside, the EverDesk is a well-rounded desk with countless custom features that will significantly reduce your back pain—and it is sure to make your working day much more enjoyable.
