Bored of the same old decor? Looking for something colourful, vintage or plain odd? Check out these strange and whimsical decor shops in Singapore for some truly quirky pieces!
Strange & Deranged
If you’re looking for luxurious furniture and decor with a twist, Strange & Deranged is the place to go. From funky tables to tropical cushions, they have a little bit of everything, as long as it’s vibrant and, well, strange.
PrettyUglyKlei
True to its name, PrettyUglyKlei celebrates things that are kind of pretty but also kind of ugly, resulting in some really interesting pottery pieces that are exclusively available on Instagram. Do note that these items are purely decorative and not food-safe! The shop is currently out of stock, but do give the account a follow to find out when they start selling again!
Lampelier
Lampelier is essentially your one-stop shop for handmade lampshades in lots of exciting patterns, including gorgeous tropical designs. They also refurbish old lamps and organise workshops, so you can learn how to DIY the lampshade of your dreams!
Unniki
Bringing colour to your life—Unniki’s tagline says it all. The shop curates colourful home decor in unusual shapes, all with a twisted retro vibe. Whether you choose a clock, a vase or a rug, these pieces definitely make for conversation starters at home!
PepperVint Home
One of our favourite things to uncover from the depths of Instagram is local shops that curate unusual retro items. PepperVint Home definitely fits the bill, collecting kitschy vintage pieces for your home, be it jars, trays, vases, letter holders, mugs or pretty much anything else you can think of.
Romanez
Specialising in bold and beautiful textiles for curtains and upholstery, Romanez is one of our favourite finds this year. The showroom is stocked with eye-catching patterned fabric from prestigious brands such as Designers Guild. Plus, upholstery specialist blafink is stationed in the same space, so you can also take a peek at their unique headboards while you’re at it!
Chonky Things
Another shop that curates strange home decor, this one isn’t exclusively vintage but generally odd, stocking lots of cute kitchenware shaped like fruits and vegetables. Animal-themed homeware is occasionally available too, including a stapler shaped like a sausage dog. If you see something you like, grab it quick—there’s only one of each!
UMMURAMICS
We can’t lie, we’re in love with the UMMURAMICS aesthetic. Weird in a gentle, almost understated way, these mugs and dinnerware pieces are just delightful to look at, bringing whimsical fairytale vibes into your city home.
RE.LUUK
If you can’t get enough of the retro shops we’ve mentioned so far, check out RE.LUUK as well, another Instagram exclusive curating vintage pieces in Singapore. From corn teapots to old-school IKEA lamps, there’s a little bit of everything here.
The Lampshade House
More patterned lampshades to liven up your home! These ones are mostly bespoke and custom-made, so do reach out to The Lampshade House if you have a specific design in mind. They can restore your dusty old shades too.
OBJECTS.re
Driven by the goal to eliminate “boring homes,” OBJECTS.re curates local pieces with lots of character. They’ve got mermaid sculptures, chess boards, lamps, wall hangings, ashtrays and much more. You truly never know what they’re going to post next!
Eat & Sip
Based in Singapore, Eat & Sip stocks handmade tableware from independent artisans around the world, bringing in lots of interesting colours, patterns and textures. If you’re looking for home decor with equal amounts of character and class, this shop strikes a good balance.
Cuturi Gallery
Let’s talk art. Most homeowners entirely forget about artwork when decorating their homes, but the wonderful pieces at Cuturi Gallery will serve as a reminder of its powerful impact. You can shop for affordable prints on the website or enquire to get an original if your wallet permits!
Re.trospeck
Indulge your nostalgia with Re.trospeck’s curated secondhand and vintage finds, ranging from heart-shaped trinket boxes to decorative mushroom houses and onyx jewellery cases. You can get the items delivered to your home or meet up with the shop owner to avoid the delivery fee!
Made by tngying
Most of the shops on this list are colourful and vibrant, so here’s something a little different: handmade ceramics and leather goods with a dark and neutral colour palette yet eye-catching textures. The raw finish and occasional pops of colour make the pieces from Made by tngying the perfect finishing touch for a modern home with a twist.
