In the heart of Rainbow Centre lies a hidden gem. With white stars playfully scattered across the glass panels and a blackboard displaying adorable quotes, Seeds Cafe never fails to catch the eye of every passer-by. From the moment you step foot into this establishment, you will be charmed. Dressed in a classic neutral colour palette, adorned with artistic hints of green and authentic student artwork, customers here are often pleasantly reminded of the calming effects that nature has on the soul.
Although its aim is to help students with disabilities gain the necessary skills to transition seamlessly into the workforce, this Rainbow Centre cafe is a far cry from being a mere charity outlet. Designed by award-winning interior design and architecture firm LAANK, the cafe sets itself apart with its clean-cut, modern furniture that is simple yet effective. Slim wooden shelves, tables, and chairs, along with the ivory walls, all contribute to the cafe’s subtle beauty. With its laidback vibes, quaint potted plants and framed photography, the space presents itself more as a cosy hang out spot than anything else – and will prove to be one that will withstand the test of time.
The name “seeds” is truly fitting for this coffee shop’s touching concept and vision. The word represents the idea of a humble, small beginning that is brimming with potential, and will eventually blossom into something beautiful and strong. This sentiment is embodied in the cafe’s simple yet unique interior, its simple and tasty menu, and the passionate service of its students.
The newly launched menu offers a delicious range of classic bites. Tasty and affordable chef recommendations include the bread bowl ($8) with piping hot soup of the day and a side of greens, beef pie ($8), and turkey ham quiche ($8). Should you have a sweet tooth, you’ll definitely be hooked on Seeds’ ice-cream on waffles ($7) and their molten lava muffin ($3).
And you need a caffeine boost, you’ll be pleased to know that Seeds Cafe’s baristas are trained by Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee, and serve with a passion that translates into a wonderful experience. Not only is the food well made and delicious, it is placed on each plate like a unique piece of art, making every dish Instagram-worthy.
