IKEA Meatballs and Furniture Coming Soon to JEM, First Store In The West

With two branches in Singapore, IKEA is everyone’s favourite one-stop shop for affordable furniture and Swedish meatballs. However, locals living in the west have had to travel all the way to Alexandra or even Tampines to visit one of the stores, both being far from home. Thankfully, IKEA is now bringing its furniture range and famous eatery to the west, joining the shop directory at JEM in 2021.

Despite being called a ‘small-store concept,’ the 6,500 square metre space will cover three whole floors inside the shopping mall, brimming with furniture and food. It will be the first IKEA store to be housed in a shopping centre in Southeast Asia, making it a particularly special place to visit. “There are only a few other IKEA stores like it in the world today!” shares Jaap Doornbos, the Retail Director for Singapore and Vietnam.

If working from home and staying indoors has taught us anything, it’s that making your home into a comfortable, welcoming space is crucial to our wellbeing. With their range of economical furniture that is easy to assemble, IKEA will now be more accessible than ever, bringing beautiful homes that don’t break the bank closer to almost a million western Singaporeans.

While the IKEA store at JEM will not house a warehouse or playground, the entire catalogue will be available, alongside the popular IKEA Restaurant, making for a complete shopping experience.
