Dyson V10 Optic Review: A Lightweight Approach To Deep Cleaning

A month after the Dyson V10 Optic launched, I’m convinced the vacuum has two personalities: part cleaning tool, part truth detector. The moment its green laser-like illumination sweeps across the floor, every hidden dust particle, strand of hair and pet fur suddenly reveals itself. It is both deeply satisfying (and mildly offensive), especially when you thought your home was already clean.

And honestly? It changes the way you clean.

Living with a dog means my concrete screed flooring at home traps more fur and dust than I realise, until the Dyson V10 Optic reveals it all.

The Dyson V10 Optic is Dyson’s latest cordless vacuum designed for everyday homes, and while its technology sounds impressive on paper, what stood out most during use was how effortless it felt during longer cleaning sessions. At just 2.4kg, the vacuum feels noticeably lightweight in hand, especially compared to some heavier cordless models in the market.

The lightweight build of the Dyson V10 Optic made longer cleaning sessions feel far more comfortable and manageable around the home. Image: SquareRooms

For anyone living in a typical Singaporean flat, where cleaning often means navigating around dining chairs, coffee tables, corners and tight bedroom spaces, that lightweight body makes a huge difference. The cleaner head glides smoothly around furniture and manoeuvres easily into awkward spots without feeling cumbersome. Even after vacuuming multiple rooms, it never felt like an arm workout.

Even on my terracotta tiles with thick grout lines, the Dyson V10 Optic glides surprisingly well while pulling out dust hidden deep within the texture.

What Dyson has also improved here is visibility. The upgraded Fluffy Optic cleaner head projects a green laser-like illumination across hard floors, revealing dust and dirt that would otherwise go unnoticed. Dyson users may already be familiar with this feature from models like the Dyson V15 Detect and Gen5detect, where the laser illumination first became a talking point. But seeing it integrated into the lighter and more approachable V10 Optic makes the feature feel far more accessible for everyday homeowners.

Once the light hits your floors, even the smallest hair strands, pet fur and fine dust become impossible to ignore, and strangely satisfying to clean up. If you have pets, long hair, or simply walk barefoot at home often, the effect becomes even more dramatic. Suddenly, the corners you thought were spotless reveal a layer of fine dust and fur hiding in plain sight. It is oddly addictive in the way it pushes you to keep cleaning “just one more area”.

But perhaps the most humbling part of the experience comes when emptying the vacuum bin. Seeing the amount of dust, hair and particles collected after a single clean really makes you wonder how much dirt we shed and circulate around our homes every day.

Thankfully, Dyson backs this up with serious filtration performance. The V10 Optic now features a fully sealed, five-stage HEPA filtration system that captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns — including allergens, bacteria and viruses — while ensuring there is no loss of suction during cleaning. In practical terms, it means cleaner air is expelled back into the home instead of recirculating dust into the room.

Performance-wise, the vacuum delivers up to 150 Air Watts of suction with up to 60 minutes of runtime, making it more than capable for regular whole-home cleaning. The single-button operation also simplifies usage, especially for users who found earlier trigger-style Dyson vacuums tiring over time.

Of course, the Dyson V10 Optic sits within a very competitive Dyson family lineup. Compared to higher-tier siblings like the Gen5detect or V15 Detect, the V10 Optic feels less like a “tech showcase” and more like the sweet spot for practical everyday cleaning. You still get Dyson’s signature suction, laser dust detection and advanced filtration, but in a lighter, easier-to-handle format that feels more approachable for daily use.

So what should homeowners consider before purchasing?

If your priority is maximum power, advanced LCD analytics or deep-cleaning very large homes with carpets, Dyson’s premium flagship models may still appeal more. But if you are looking for a cordless vacuum that feels lightweight, easy to manoeuvre, powerful enough for everyday cleaning and genuinely enjoyable to use, the V10 Optic strikes a compelling balance.

And then there is the upcoming Auto-empty DokTM.

Launching later as Dyson’s first self-emptying dock system, the Auto-empty DokTM automatically empties dust and debris into a sealed bin liner that can hold up to 60 days’ worth of dirt, while also charging and storing the vacuum neatly in one place. For homeowners who dislike the dusty process of manually emptying vacuum bins, this addition could become one of Dyson’s most practical upgrades yet.

After seeing what the Dyson V10 Optic collects in a single session, the self-emptying feature feels like a welcome addition.
