Opulent materials and finishes make this a luxurious family home!
What first caught the eye of the homeowner, a Russian businessman, was a show flat design for a luxury condo done up by Angela Lim of SuMISURA. He wanted to recreate the look – which consisted mainly of solid wood fixtures and pieces – in his new home. However, Angela wasn’t keen on reusing her designs. The designer hence suggested embarking on a different route – one that nevertheless maintained the luxurious feel as seen in the show flat, but boasted a distinctive character that fit in with his needs and preferences.
The apartment was to be a permanent home for his family, who were planning to settle down in Singapore. One of the main challenges Angela faced during the design process was the reconfiguration of the layout as there were a lot of structural technicalities that had to be taken into account. The original plan had four bedrooms, which were reduced to three after converting the smallest room into a walk-in wardrobe.
Another major renovation work involved turning the dry kitchen into a dining area so that the living room could be bigger. Before, the living and dining rooms shared an open-plan space. The facilities that came with the dry kitchen were moved to the wet kitchen, and in their place are storage cabinets hidden behind bronzed tinted mirrors. An indented niche was carved out for the owner to feature one of his sculptures.
“Instead of an interior dominated by wood surfaces like in the show flat, we went for more graphic details, upholstered pieces and luxury trimmings here.” – Angela Lim
In the living room, the grand TV feature wall is made up of ash wood with full-length bronzed tinted mirrors at the sides. Ash wood was also used to frame the three pieces of art along the corridor and the door that leads into the junior suite.
Like the master bedroom, the junior suite comes with its en suite, but what’s particularly striking is the photo feature wall just above the bed, which comprises black and white images that Angela sourced herself. In the master suite, Angela did up a stunning tall headboard made from luxe materials like leather and velvet.
