Like every piece of art, your home has to say something about you; and if you have to make a statement, make it a strong one. Try one of these techniques.

If you’re a closet chef or a food aficionado, plates would speak volumes about you. Depending on the type of platters you put out, you could either go for a country theme or an art deco theme. Whatever you do has to be a reflection of who you are as a foodie, so start collecting them tableware. It needn’t all be plates either – mix it up with some cool cutlery.

Lighting

It need not be a chandelier nor a fancy hanging candelabrum, but ensure that it mirrors who you are and how you live. Like dark spaces? Keep the lighting minimal, but casing large. Like it bright? Make sure it shines like the sun. Can’t decide? Sit in the middle, it’s okay – get a large lampshade or get scattered lights.

Go bold or go home; a feature wall just needs to be a bold colour in order to be a feature wall. This is one of the classic strategies in having a feature… without the hassle.

Anything that creates dimension and depth will attract eyes and create a statement. Whether it’s your wedding shadowbox, a piece of 3D art or just a quirky corner shelf, it’s a great idea to have one of these to put a bit of yourself in your home.

Absolutely anyone can manage this; a living wall requires practically no maintenance at all – just make sure your storage box is treated against mould. You can read about what plants to put in your living wall here at 6 Houseplants You Simply Can’t Kill.
