Pretty Devi, the founder of online shop Decorator’s Notebook, has great taste. And she wants to help homeowners beautify their home with stunning home furnishings products. We speak with her to learn about her motivation for launching Decorator’s Notebook, a webshop where you can also get plenty of home styling inspiration.
Why did you decide to set up Decorator’s Notebook?
I set up this business because when I was building and decorating my own home some years ago, I found that to find a complement of quality home accessories I had to visit multiple sites, which was very time consuming. I also wanted to give young, talented designers from across the globe access to a global marketplace for their products. As an upcoming product designer, marketing costs to promote oneself and compete with established designers can be a very expensive proposition.
You gravitate towards a modern, luxury look for your collections. Is that a style you like?
I would say I enjoy a number of different home decor styles. I think there is great beauty in all styles – contemporary, classic, and minimalist. Quality home accessories always stand out, but I’m not a fan of ultra-modern decor.
How often do the things change at Decorator’s Notebook?
We are constantly adding new products to our platform. We have vendors and designers reach out to us almost every month but unless we have personally viewed their products, we do not accept them. The selection process is quite rigorous because we want to maintain the quality and product standards of our offering.
Who would love to shop at Decorator’s Notebook?
Anyone with good taste!
I understand you do quite a bit of non-profit work. Tell us about that aspect of your life.
When one is blessed with a good life, it is important to remain grounded and to give back to society. For me, education remains a very fundamental aspect of hope and opportunity for a better life, so I am involved in different aspects of this. My family and I are also very connected to wildlife, and I like to focus some of my efforts to raise awareness for projects that are working to protect endangered species.
Having travelled so extensively, where would you say is the most exotic place you’ve been to?
Istanbul. It is the only place in the world that straddles Europe and Asia and has such an amazing mix of the two distinct cultures.
