Dark wood and matte black surfaces dominate this sleek 4-room flat while an open-concept layout maintains a sense of airy spaciousness. Designer Mike Khor implemented extra storage space in every nook and cranny to maximise the available square footage, resulting in features like a shoe cabinet that simultaneously conceals the household shelter. But the highlight of this home is definitely the unconventional gaming room, which doubles as an unexpected walk-in wardrobe.

Living room

To offset the petite size of the living room, the designer decided to opt for an open-concept layout, connecting the living area to the dining and kitchen. We can also see the homeowners’ wish to live with “everything off the floor” in this space to facilitate easy cleaning, reflected in the floating TV console and minimal furnishings. The only exception is the one-of-a-kind, almost traditional sofa. “We saw this kind of couch in a Korean drama and thought it basically screams luxurious,” the designer shares with us. “So of course we decided to go with it.”

Kitchen

The kitchen was clad in thick quartz countertops for a sturdy, workable space, but functionality was certainly not the only priority here; a dark colour scheme keeps the kitchen sleek and gives it an almost bar-inspired look, particularly with the neon “welcome” sign on the right-hand side. “The sign brings a fun and casual vibe into the home,” the designer shares. “Picking it was a gamble at first because we didn’t know how it would turn out, but it fits in really well with the overall dark theme of the house.”

Bedroom

After watching a Korean drama and seeing the characters sleep in a platform bed, the homeowners of this BTO flat couldn’t stop thinking about getting one of their own. Not only does it look stylish and open up the room thanks to its low height but it acts as extra storage space too, keeping the room clean and clutter-free.

Gaming room and wardrobe

The homeowners wanted a full-length walk-in wardrobe but fitting it into the bedroom would have meant sacrificing the platform bed. The designer came up with a clever solution for this conundrum, converting one of the other bedrooms into an office space cum gaming room with a walk-in wardrobe at the side.
