This 4-room BTO flat went from drab to fab and now makes the perfect cosy home for a modern young couple.
Renovating isn’t just about beautifying a space, but also about providing the homeowners with what they need—in this case, an escape from the hustle and bustle of their fast-paced lives, in the shape of an everyday staycation. To achieve that resort-inspired look they were after, the flat was given a Scandi-style makeover with a boho-chic touch, enhanced with plenty of natural light. While the renovation posed some challenges, the design was pulled off expertly by Irene Lee, who put her many years of experience at Darwin Interior to good use.

Space: 4-room BTO flat
Size: 1,001 square feet
Location: Bendemeer
Designer: Irene Lee from Darwin Interior
Reno period: Eight weeks
Budget: $50K
Common area
Immediately setting the Scandi-boho tone, the common area boasts a variety of custom-built pieces, such as the wood-look island, fitted with a white Vulcan top and a handy storage nook to display bottles, vases and other knick-knacks. A large mirrored feature wall behind the island creates the illusion of greater space and brightens the home by reflecting natural light into the surroundings. In the living area, a cream-hued couch fronts an L-shaped settee with built-in storage space, seamlessly linking the TV console to the dining area.
Kitchen
The homeowners’ favourite space in the house, the kitchen is open and airy, with conveniently separated wet and dry areas. While the wet kitchen encompasses the cooking appliances and service yard, the dry area serves as a mini-bar within easy reach of the island, allowing friends and family to gather for casual drinks. While most of the design is kept cosy and simple, the marble-look sintered stone backsplash adds a touch of luxury to elevate the overall space.
Bedroom
In order to achieve the ideal square footage in the master suite, the wall separating it from the rest of the home was knocked down and re-erected. This also made room for the custom L-shaped wardrobe, which allows for extra clothes storage without making the room feel cramped. Above the bed, a lush headboard was crafted out of laminates and cushions and finished with bespoke fabric for a luxurious feel. As the bedhead is connected to the wardrobe, the designer had to ensure that all of the dimensions line up to a T, aiming for nothing short of perfection.
Bathroom
Furnished with lovely finds from Taobao, including the chic pendant lamps and the countertop sink, the bathroom was designed to exude a warm and cosy yet sophisticated feel. The mix of veined, neutral tiles and dim lighting is sure to transport the young couple straight into their favourite hotel room.
