Creative and inspired, this young couple gave their small walk-up apartment a charming makeover.
The renovation of this walk-up apartment started off a little rough, the designers having to face cosmetic, roofing and water seepage issues before they could dive into the true makeover.
Once these challenges were overcome, however, the rest of the renovation was smooth as butter, the homeowners engaged and creative yet open-minded and flexible—every designer’s dream clients. The apartment now boasts a lively, plant-filled aesthetic with chic mid-century modern touches.

Lounge room
Is anyone surprised that this is the couple’s favourite room? Sun-bathed and filled with plants and memorabilia, the lounge room is a dreamy space to wind down in.
The custom-built bookcase incorporates the requested mid-century modern style, while the balcony has quite a few highlights to offer, including a glass-fronted archway that connects the lounge to the bedroom and retro tiles from Soon Bee Huat for good measure.
Kitchen
Clad in cherry-look laminates from Lamitak, the cabinets give the kitchen an old-school vibe that pairs well with the home’s mid-century modern aesthetic. Frosted glass panels from Joo Heng Framemaker cover the cooker hood and some of the dinnerware storage to keep everything nice and neat.
Bedroom
The bedroom’s charm comes from its eclectic mix of colours—orange bed sheets, a turquoise dresser from Castlery and a hint of green peeking out from the arched glass partition in the balcony. The view of a row of shophouses out the window gives the room a nostalgic kick.
