Clad in monochromatic hues, this spacious HDB flat was transformed into a home fit for a gamer couple.

When Vincent Wong from Darwin Interior found out that both of these homeowners are voracious gamers, he knew that the flat couldn’t do without a dedicated gaming area. Some of the other requirements included a palette of grey tones, which were balanced by wooden elements to break up any potential monotony, and an abundance of indoor plants for a lively touch of nature.

Two gamers sharing a home couldn’t possibly live without a gaming area, so the designer was quick to hack away one of the superfluous rooms and craft an open-concept common area instead. The couple can now move between the living room, gaming corner, dining island and kitchen space with ease, the lack of walls making the flat feel expansive and airy while the pared-back colour palette keeps the aesthetic cohesive for seamless transitions.

Gaming room

Furnished with a spacious, adjustable desk and a multi-screen gaming system, this space ticks all of the owners’ boxes, bringing the latest in gaming tech straight into their abode. Of course, the storage space wasn’t neglected either, allowing the couple to keep consoles, games and accessories at hand behind textured cabinet fronts from EDL and Jennings.

Bedroom

Despite the abundance of grey and white tones, the bedroom exudes plenty of cosiness thanks to the warm strip lighting installed above the bed. At the heart of the room, most of the full-height partition was hacked away, opening up the space while still accommodating a sense of separation between the sleeping quarters and the dressing area. The latter is a particularly eye-catching highlight in this space, boasting a wood-look vanity with a quartz top and a vintage-style chair with significant charm.

Kitchen

While the kitchen predominantly sticks to the couple’s request for grey tones, the designer suggested adding in the wooden cabinet fronts, allowing the indoor plants to pop and lending the room some added visual interest. Both of the homeowners were ultimately delighted with this twist and now consider the kitchen their favourite room of the house.
