Blending jewel-hued accents with a neutral industrial-style backdrop, this HDB resale flat unit to two makes a lasting impression
Space: 5-room HDB flat
Size: 1,184 square feet
Designer: Alvin Peh, from Jialux Interior
Reno period: 8 weeks
By using a series of track lighting, the shared communal zones get a characterful style boost of the industrial aesthetic. Much attention was paid to the tiny details such as the DB outlet box which was painted in a matching sleek shade of black. The front door of the resale flat unit was repainted as well and it reflects on the homeowners’ favourite colour.
With the homeowners specifying for a saturated shade of green to be implemented into their marital home, designer Alvin Peh from Jialux Interior had to think of colour and material combos to best play up its appeal. An industrial-inspired setting of grey painted walls and cement screed-look flooring tiles creates a neutral backdrop to allow the green accent tone to pop. The well-balanced colour scheme instils an air of spaciousness and a cosy, lived-in ambience.
For design continuity, the kitchen cabinetry is clad with laminates of a similar shade of green. White subway tiles are used for the backsplash and the neutral tone grounds the bold hue of the cabinetry. Breaking the boxy profile of the countertops is the application of wood-look tiles laid out in a herringbone arrangement.
The interplay of industrial and bold colour accents creates a dining area brimming of grandeur and rustic charm. Another design highlight is the extension of the kitchen tiles which ‘punctuates’ through the 800 by 800mm large format flooring tiles. It makes a visual statement with its casual herringbone patterned arrangement.
The mood switches to an upscale country style in the bathroom. Adhering to a dominant white colour palette of subway tiles, Alvin used mosaic flooring tiles with hexagonal and monochromatic details to establish a sleek contrast. He also concealed the piping and created a storage fixture with recesses to store toiletries.
