Living and dining zones

To create an organic vibe, the walls were hand-painted with neutral-hued textured paint—a substrate that creates the look of cement screed but has more durability.

The creative homeowners sourced most of the furnishings themselves, and their designer filled in the gaps with custom pieces such as the media unit which neatly accommodates cables and entertainment devices.

Kitchen

Since this is an open kitchen, the palette had to be consistent with the tones in the living room. The cooking zone was fitted with sleek composite panels, repeating the same material used for the living room island to create continuity. The flat fronts aid with easy maintenance and create a peaceful-looking space to work in.

Entry

A low console that serves the dining zone acts as a drop-off point and partially separates the entry from the rest of the space. A tall storage unit was created here to tuck away shoes and unsightly items, adding a built-in seat and display niches for visual interest and utility.

Main bathroom

Since this is the first stop after waking up in the morning, the idea was to inject fun elements while staying within the home’s primary palette. Adding a strip of terrazzo tiles livens up the bathroom with colour and movement.

Additionally, to avoid the conventional look of a vanity suspended in the middle of a wall, a slim ledge runs behind the cabinetry, providing a spot for the homeowners to stash items they reach for on a daily basis.

Common bathroom

Since the wife got to set the direction for the primary bathroom, the husband weighed in more on the design of the common bathroom, which sports a more masculine feel.

The initial plans included darker coloured tiles, but upon collection of keys, the bathroom was found to lack natural light so more subdued hues were chosen. Instead, they added visual interest by combining a black sink with a forest-green and wood-textured vanity unit.
