For years now, Dempsey Hill is the go-to place for Singapore residents looking to get away from urban life. Located less than five minutes away from busy Orchard Road, the leafy enclave is an oasis populated with relaxed dining and lifestyle establishments.
A new lifestyle destination that has just opened up in the neighbourhood is Siri House. The multi-concept space containing a dining space, retail corner, museum and property showroom is hidden away on the bottom level of a converted army barracks that used to house Spa Esprit Group’s F&B space House at Dempsey. Descend down the steps flanked by lush greenery and enter its nondescript glass doors and you’ll be totally transported to an art deco haven filled with jewel-toned furnishings and gilt-trimmed accents. Taking up the heart of Siri House is Jam, a 48-seater restaurant and bar made up to feel like a glamorous speakeasy.
Evoking the feeling of dining in a gorgeous home, the interiors combine mid-century modern style with eclectic Asian touches. Hues like electric blue, yellow and coral are juxtaposed against a dramatic black lacquer backdrop, while chairs upholstered in Jim Thompson silks and chinoiserie-chic de Gournay wallpaper give the space its ultra-luxe vibe.
Siri House is the brainchild of Thai luxury property developer Sansiri who is launching its lifestyle concept in Singapore before opening its Bangkok outpost later this year. And the restaurant, Jam, sees the real estate company working with local chefs Ming Tan and Jeremy Cheok as well as mixologists Mark Tay and Yap Hwee Jen.
With a menu that focuses on sharing plates of classic favourites with a twist, diners can expect to enjoy bites like scallop carpaccio with yuzu, spring onion oil, kizami konbu and trout roe, prime rib with shio konbu butter and salsa verde, and the vegetarian-friendly cauliflower steak with curried carrot, pistachios and sherry vinaigrette.
To end your meal on a high note, the restaurant and bar has come up with a selection of dessert-inspired cocktails. Flavours like toasted waffles can be discerned from Melting Pot, a concoction of white port, rum and burnt butter syrup topped with a peach tuile shard. There’s also the moreish Maize Runner, mix of roasted coconut whiskey with bourbon, peanut froth and a corn salt rim. If these decadent cocktails are not enough, the bar’s signature cocktail Siri House Negroni made with red Thai tea is sure to hit the right spot.
