This condo unit was clad in neutral hues for a soothing atmosphere that will serve the mother-and-daughter duo well over the years.
Having just received the keys to their new home, this small family was somewhat overwhelmed at the thought of renovating it all by themselves. They ultimately decided to place their abode in the hands of Gerald Tang from Swift Interior, who followed the duo’s request for a dark living room and was given free play beyond that. The result is a sleek, modern home that maximises the limited space and finishes things off with luxurious accents.

Overall view
Working with the condo’s constraints, the designer had to find a way to separate the bedrooms from the living and dining area without making the home feel even more cramped. The clever solution is a false wall that actually conceals hidden doorways into the bedrooms, lending the surroundings a clean, clutter-free look. In order to match the homeowners’ request for a dusky theme while still providing a sense of organic warmth, the team opted for a dark wood veneer across the false wall. Mirrored accents round off the design, visually expanding the living and dining space.
Dining area
The dining counter easily takes the spot as the family’s favourite area of the house, the custom-made quartz countertop doubling up as a sturdy food prep surface. The island additionally boasts a handy bookshelf, adding to the room’s storage space. Chic bar stools with a comfy fabric finish add the final touch, handpicked by the designer to match the home’s aesthetic without bursting the family’s budget.
Bedroom
In order to contrast the dark tones of the living and dining area, the bedrooms were clad in light wood tones, instantly maximising the natural light streaming in from the condo’s large windows. Despite this change in palette, the hues remain neutral, keeping the aesthetic cohesive throughout the home. The elevated platform bed is undoubtedly the highlight of this room, constructed out of plywood and laminate to incorporate extra storage and evoke an especially cosy vibe.
Wardrobe
Custom-built to make use of every inch of space, the full-height wardrobe was finished with a slightly darker, matte laminate to soften any harsh light reflections in the bedroom, making early mornings gentler on the eyes. A thin strip of wood-look laminate cuts through potential monotony across the wardrobe, matching the rest of the bedroom to keep things simple and cosy.
