Easy Maintenance Tips To Keep Your Walls Looking Pristine

Your home’s walls probably don’t get a lot of attention. But for a perpetually sharp-looking home, keeping the walls free from stains and other undesirable foreign objects is key. Here are some tips on how to keep your walls looking as good as new.

Dust your walls
Airborne dust collects on walls, especially in the corners of ceilings. As such, it is important to use your duster or microfibre wiper to wipe your walls every 2 months or so to keep dust at bay.

Act fast
To prevent it from accumulating, wipe away fingerprints as soon as they appear.

Do a deep clean once in a while
Use all-purpose detergent to wash off stubborn stains. However, be sure that the paint is washable. Mix a quarter teaspoon of detergent with a cup of warm water. Rinse with clean water and blot to dry.

Don’t cut corners
Take note of areas that are prone to stains, such as around switches.

Test painted walls before adding water
Some paint finishes may not take to water so always test on a small area first. If the paint chips off, you should only dry-clean the wall.

Touch ups
If part of your painted wall chips off, touch it up as soon as it happens to keep your walls looking pristine. First, scrape off the chipped paint and sand down the surrounding area. Then, cover the affected area with paint.

Do-over
Just like any other surface, walls are subject to the regular wear and tear. Painted walls may fade or change colour after a few years. To keep your home looking well-put-together, it is recommended that you paint your walls every 3 to 4 years, depending on which areas of the home it is at. For instance, walls in the bathroom or kitchen may be subject to more wear and tear as they are exposed to high heat and humidity, and as such may need freshening up more frequently.
