A Farmhouse-Inspired HDB Flat with a Mix of Modern and Rustic Elements

Inspired by the farmhouse look, this young couple renovated their space to incorporate plenty of classic elements and exude a joyful ambience.

After seeing the farmhouse style all over Netflix, this couple knew they wanted to replicate the ever-popular look in their own abode here in Singapore. With the help of designer Yan from Blend by ImC, they made their dreams come true and turned this HDB flat into a bright and cheerful home with classic farmhouse elements.

Living area

Blessed with an unconventionally high ceiling, the living room was the perfect space to incorporate wooden beams, giving the home a decidedly rustic vibe. The walls were painted off-white for a look that’s clean and contemporary yet less intense than pure white walls.

The kitchen is where the homeowners got to truly play around with a host of their favourite elements.

Not only did the design team painstakingly hunt down mint green laminates—ultimately sourced from Panaplast—but they also constructed an open pantry near the island, clad in botanical wallpaper from Craft Axis, for the couple to indulge in their love of coffee.

Finally, the generous farmhouse sink is a particular highlight that takes this space to another level.

Bedroom and wardrobe

Contrasting with the rest of the home, the bedroom was purposely turned into a dusky retreat. Given the bedroom’s limited square footage and the difference in the homeowners’ waking times, the design team chose to separate the dressing and sleeping areas, elevating the latter onto a raised platform.

This allows one party to get ready in the morning without disturbing the other, as well as leaving enough room for a walk-in closet despite the tiny space.

Bathrooms

While the common bathroom follows the cheery colour palette of the kitchen, the main bathroom was clad in dark tiles from Hafary, fulfilling the couple’s wish for muted and soothing private spaces.
