Tasked with creating a home that’s stylish yet cosy, Alex found the right balance by mixing edgy industrial style with modern rustic elements for warmth. In the living room, he exemplified this aesthetic by juxtaposing the clean lines of the furnishings with organic-looking wood panelling. Wrapping the woodgrain across the floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, dining bench and TV console unifies the pieces to make the room seem less busy. The impactful design accent also draws your eye through the room and upwards, making the communal area feel more spacious.

Dining nook

By incorporating a lowered row of storage, Alex created a dining bench that eliminates the need for additional furniture. This clever feature helps to maintain the minimalistic look and can also fit more guests when they come by. Above, naked lightbulbs and a factory-style pendant lamp were used to drive the industrial theme home.

Master bedroom

Two full-height cabinets were installed by the bed to downplay odd angles in the room and provide additional storage space. An arresting woodgrain chevron wall breaks up the dark tones and evokes a sense of calm, its laidback aesthetic further heightened by the soft lines of the pillow bed to create a sanctuary that looks striking and peaceful at the same time.

The stark contrast of light woodgrain against dark panels serves to add depth and visual interest throughout the house. Crisp lines etched in the surfaces draw the eye across the rooms and further amplify the home’s contemporary look.

Kitchen

Bursting with raw energy, this kitchen has the real wow factor with its unabashed use of wood panelling, grey concrete walls and black countertops. However, this bold combination isn’t just for appearance. As this household enjoys home-cooked meals, the finishes were chosen with ease of cleaning, maintenance and durability in mind.
