Soothing natural elements, vibrant pops of colour and unique design accents come together to create a one-of-a-kind condo unit for this family of four.
The pandemic undeniably changed how we reside in our homes. As we spend more and more time indoors, we want to feel closer to nature and have a sense of spaciousness in our abodes. It is no surprise then that this family of four fell in love with their ground-floor condominium unit, complete with high ceilings, generous patio space and a refreshing pool view. In the hands of designer Don Ng from Lush Interior Design, this unit was transformed into a versatile home that even accommodates a large aquarium, packing plenty of personality in each design detail.
Space: Condominium unit
Size: 1,432 sq ft
Designer: Don Ng from Lush Interior Design
Reno period: Eight weeks
To accommodate the homeowners’ interest in aquascaping, the designer incorporated a large aquarium on top of an island counter, making it a deliberately eye-catching feature and a sure conversation starter in the living room. When it’s time to serve drinks, the tank can be lifted out of the way to transform the counter into a classic bar, complete with low cabinets to store all the essentials. The high wall behind the aquarium functions as both a makeshift home cinema and a storage unit, fitted out with a custom ladder for easy access.
This unique banquette isn’t just a cosy nook for the family’s pet dog, but also a handy settee the family can use while putting on their shoes, which are stored right underneath. The idea came from the lady of the house, who wanted a creative yet seamless storage solution. Not only is it a convenient addition to the home, but it is just as visually appealing, the arch breaking up the linear monotony of the surrounding cabinets and elevating the entire space. The open shelves flanking the banquette provide some extra room to store keys, wallets and other everyday essentials.
Fitted out with generous countertop space, the kitchen leaves more than enough room for both food prep and dining. The designer claimed some space from the adjacent bathroom to expand the long peninsula, allowing the whole family to have meals together without feeling squeezed. The most eye-catching feature? The vibrant yet soothing verdant hue covering the back of the peninsula and the cabinets surrounding the fridge and oven.
The most intriguing feature of this home, the loft bedroom maximises the condo’s high ceilings, leaving plenty of headroom for the homeowners to move around their ingenious master suite. Plus, this arrangement allowed the designer to incorporate a full-sized wardrobe below the bedroom, adding to the home’s storage solutions without compromising on comfort.
