Inspired by dark tones and modern elements, the young couple residing in this HDB flat was looking to transform their home into a minimalist oasis that yet brings plenty of personality to the table.
While the owners of this 4-room HDB flat didn’t have a lot of requirements for their renovation, they did insist on one aspect of the design: dark hues for a home that’s soothing and easy on the eyes. In the hands of Tim Tian from Noble Interior Design, the flat morphed into a resort-style haven that perfectly suits the couple’s lifestyle and reflects their personality in a series of custom design features.

Living area
Embodying the couple’s dream home to a T, the living area sports a dusky couch and walnut coffee table from Castlery, picked by the homeowners with some extra guidance from the designer. On the right-hand side, a full-height storage cabinet is discreetly concealed by a series of mirrors, which also help to visually expand the room despite the darker colour palette.
Dining and kitchen
Communal and inviting, this space was furnished with a sturdy dining set from Castlery, matching the living area for a sense of cohesion and continuity. The main light source is a lovely asymmetrical pendant lamp from Azora, which keeps the area brighter than the rest of the home for the sake of practicality. A clear glass enclosure ensures that the kitchen receives plenty of natural light while keeping cooking fumes out of the dining area.
Bedroom
The master suite is easily the couple’s favourite room, bringing out their dedication to collecting with a custom wardrobe that integrates an illuminated shoe display. Behind the bed frame, a headboard was constructed out of a mix of laminate and plywood, elevating the space with a lush fluted texture.
Bathroom
Reflecting the homeowners’ wish for a dark colour palette, the bathroom exudes a true resort feel with minimal strip lighting, keeping the room cosy and luxurious at the same time. Fixtures from Azora and a custom sink cabinet further keep up the dusky aesthetic while providing the young couple with everything they need.
