Clad in warm tones and cosy fittings, this resale HDB flat makes for an inviting family home.
Space: 5-room resale HDB flat
Size: 1,300 sq ft
Designer: Richfield Integrated
Reno period: Eight weeks
The end goal of this resale flat’s renovation remained constant throughout the entire design process: crafting a welcoming home that balances style, functionality and comfort. With two young kids, the homeowners prioritised ample storage space for toys and necessities, now solidified in a full-height storage unit cum display cabinet next to the TV feature wall. The chic yet cosy colour palette requested by the parents can also be observed in the living area, the marble flooring warm-hued and the furnishings picked to match. Whether it’s the wooden dining set from Commune or the tan leather sofa from Grey and Sanders, every piece hits the golden middle between timelessly stylish and perfectly homey.
Another area the homeowners requested for their new home? A practical home office that could eventually double up as a study for the kids. Spacious and bright, this glass-enclosed room provides a quiet working corner while still letting in light from the adjacent living area. Plus, its handy full-height cabinet with illuminated niches allows the homeowners to hide away unsightly items and display their favourite collectables at the same time.
Taking up the bulk of the master bedroom, a custom-built bedframe with a chic headboard was fitted out with integrated night lights for a soft glow that’s easy on the eyes. Floating nightstands flank the bed with spacious surface areas. Above the headboard, two tattoo-style screen prints add a quirky flair to the otherwise pared-down bedroom; collected by the homeowner, these Brian Ewing artworks evoke the spirit of the master bedroom with the depiction of king and queen, rounding off the sleeping quarters with a personal touch.
The original wall separating the kitchen from the dining area was hacked, shortening the lengthy kitchen to give the family some extra space to eat. In its place, an aluminium-framed glass door with a fixed panel makes for a brighter kitchen overall, now clad in porcelain tile flooring and countertops from Casa Stone. At the back of the kitchen, a sliding glass door separates the cooking zone from the service yard for extra versatility.
Redone from top to bottom, both bathrooms in this resale flat sport similar designs. This one was fitted out with a bright wood-look finish, livening up the grey porcelain tiles across the floors and walls.
