Renovating with pre-existing furniture is never easy, but when that furniture is set to be the scene-stealer of the house, things get even trickier. Tim Tian from Noble Interior Design was assigned to come up with a suitable colour palette and layout to fit this lush landed property, highlighting the family’s traditional Chinese furniture while crafting a warm and welcoming environment. In order to help the furniture’s brown tones and red cushions to stand out, the rest of the house was thus kept fairly neutral, with a majority of white walls and wooden textures.

Living area
The central gathering point for the whole family, the living area shows off the homeowners’ set of traditional furniture in all its glory, surrounding lavish benches and a sturdy coffee table with the family’s personal art collection. An illuminated display cabinet was custom-built out of plywood and glass, while a geometric room divider was constructed to match the elegant structure of the family’s beloved furniture.
Dining area
The dining area is not only luxurious but also entirely unique in its design, combining modern elements like strip lighting and polished floors with rustic furniture and plenty of curves. But it’s without a doubt the custom-built feature wall that draws the eye here, sporting a round mirror that ties the room together and brings the space to life.
Master bedroom
Warm and cosy, the master bedroom boasts an array of custom-built features, including a bed frame with integrated storage, a cushioned headboard, two floating bedside tables and a false ceiling with cove lighting for a sophisticated look. A laminated plywood TV console and feature wall add to the lush appeal of the bedroom, exuding a hotel suite vibe with their seamless design.
Second bedroom
Just like the master suite, this bedroom sports a custom-built bed frame with storage drawers, as well as a personalised headboard and feature wall. Where this room differs, however, is its shape; due to varying ceiling heights, the designer had to maximise the space as best as possible, constructing cabinets in various sizes to make the most of the room’s nooks and crannies. Golden detail finally adds some warm contrast to the monochromatic colour palette, while curved strip lighting rounds off the room’s design, doubling up as a handy night light.
Master bathroom
Accessible through the master bedroom, this en-suite oasis was kitted out with a wall-mounted toilet and a clear shower enclosure with plenty of walking room, evoking a soothing ambience. A floating vanity with a plywood body and plenty of storage drawers was topped with a beguiling marble slab and a matching backsplash for a bold yet luxurious edge.
