DISTINCTidENTITY | Grey Grandeur | Mountbatten Road

Taking the modern-chic style and a monochromatic colour palette as a starting point, designer Ambika Chowdhry from DISTINCTidENTITY turned this cramped condominium unit into a cohesive visual journey. The quirky space now centres the homeowner’s beloved artworks and vintage accents as the real scene-stealers.

Living area

Once a second bedroom, this space was converted into a bright and airy living room by removing the solid wall separating it from the kitchen and replacing it with a sliding glass door. The Karimoku armchair from Retro Colony and TV console from Journey East draw the eye alongside a series of colourful paintings, reflecting the homeowner’s love of retro furniture and quirky artworks. Evorich vinyl flooring in Aspen Oak Black underlines the monochromatic colour palette, helping the bolder pieces stand out while providing a soft feeling underfoot.

Stairway

Originally fitted out with a metal railing, the staircase now shows off the refurbished parquet flooring that covers the surface area of the steps in all its glory. Skilful repair works and a new polish make it an inviting and striking feature of the home, the warm tones of the parquet lush and glossy. Add in the patterned tiles from An Huat and the unconventional side table from Taylor B Fine Design and it becomes apparent why this is the homeowner’s favourite space, effectively embodying the personality of the house.

Bathroom

The master bathroom was carefully designed to evoke a spa-like ambience of rest and relaxation, incorporating copper and brass elements for a touch of warmth. The countertop was fitted out with a rustic-look copper panel from KompacPlus, while the walls are covered in copper-toned tiles from Hafary. On the other hand, a floating, grey vanity establishes continuity with the rest of the home, keeping the overall design consistent. A custom-built shelf inside the shower cabin makes the limited space extra practical without introducing any distractions.

Bedroom

Polished and given a new life, the parquet flooring in the bedroom lifts the monochromatic tones of this space, warming up the room for a cosier ambience. A customised bed from Blafink functions as a dark centrepiece, framed by a fabric headboard with a contrasting leather strap detail for a much-needed pop of colour. But the most striking accent has got to be the rose-gold Kartell Componibili Modular Storage Unit, a metallic bedside table sourced from Space.
