DISTINCTidENTITY | Minimalist Measures | Sentosa Cove

After living in this condominium unit for a number of years, the family of five had finally had enough of its insufficient storage solutions and lack of style. Wanting to fully utilise all of the available space and make their home more visually appealing in the process, they engaged Mei Yee Kuay from DISTINCTidENTITY to breathe fresh air into the interiors.

Living area

Kept minimalist and free of clutter, the revamped living area offers plenty of room for the kids to play while still giving the parents the satisfaction of a luxe design. A couch and coffee table combo from Stitch and Kit are the centrepieces of this space, facing a custom-built TV feature wall and console made of Panaplast and quartzite-inspired Dekton. Rounding off the luxurious vibe of the living area is real marble flooring, which helps to cool down the room on particularly hot days.

Dining area

Flanked by Rover dining benches from Commune, the swivel pull-out table turned out to be the greatest challenge of this project, as the designers needed to calculate the right angle, weight and support to make it work safely. A wine chiller and bottle display with a mirrored bronze backing and Vicostone counter frame the table when it’s tucked away. At the top right corner, a grille lets out cool air from the concealed air-con vents.

Kid’s bedroom

Custom-built from top to bottom, the kid’s bedroom sports full-height plywood cabinets, a floating study desk and even a custom-made bed with pull-out drawers. The bed was built into the nook of an existing bay window to maximise space, although the frame ultimately had to be extended in order to fit a queen-size mattress. While the top row of drawers offers extra storage space, the large bottom drawer extends into a single-size bed that comes in especially handy during sleepovers. Warm-toned parquet flooring and a study chair from BoConcept round off the restful ambience.

Balcony

Fitted out with composite decking from Floor Xpert, the balcony balances out the airy outdoor space with its lush flooring. This space is kept simple, furnished with just a designer lounge chair and ottoman by Charles and Ray Eames and a small side table. A sleek bird statue, representative of the two designers, looks out over the scenery from atop the table, giving the setting a sense of peace and quiet.
