Initially disappointed with the layout of their BTO flat, this young couple fell in love with it once they discovered its true potential.
Getting a BTO flat can be a bit of a gamble; this couple certainly thought they got unlucky with their layout, the household shelter awkwardly located at the centre and making an open-concept kitchen impossible to implement. With the help of Winstar Tey from Noble Interior Design, they quickly changed their minds, seeing the potential of their space.
The designer suggested a new layout for the entire unit, proposing unique solutions to make up for the lack of a kitchen island. As the homeowners don’t plan on having kids anytime soon, they prioritised a large living area and a grand bedroom, making the home feel airy and expansive.
Space: 4-room BTO flat

The entryway resolved the homeowners’ disappointment with the flat’s layout, replacing the requested kitchen island with a much more practical peninsula in the foyer. With its cabin-inspired aesthetic, complete with a rustic lamp from D’SOL, this turned out to be an extremely inviting space that sets the tone for the whole house.
Living and dining
In order to enlarge the living and dining area as much as possible to accommodate guests, one of the spare bedrooms was done away with entirely, becoming part of the common areas instead. The design was greatly inspired by Japanese interiors, which rely on low, wooden furniture; this makes for a cosy ambience and also helps the ceilings appear much higher.
Sourcing the perfect furnishings was a very elaborate process that the design team took to heart, the care and attention to detail evident in gorgeous pieces like the sofa from Hommage and the dining table from The Table Guy, crafted out of a thick American walnut slab.
One of the homeowners’ favourite spaces in the house, the bathroom was clad in large-format tiles from Hafary, which are said to capture everyone’s attention with their stone-inspired veining and soothing colour story.
Generously spacious, the bedroom is a haven of relaxation with its cherry-look carpentry and pared-back, cosy elements. A custom-made standing mirror by the wardrobe makes it easy to get dressed in the morning, while low-hanging lights from Journey East ensure an intimate ambience in the evening.
