This couple’s BTO flat was missing some key essentials when the young homeowners snatched it up in a sale of balance, so a chic renovation was definitely in order.
Not wanting to wait years and years for a typical BTO flat, this young couple got lucky in a sale of balance and now calls this 4 room HDB flat their brand new home. But the place didn’t always look so polished; in fact, it was missing the entire living room, the bedroom flooring and even the bedroom doors when the new owners received their keys. They quickly realised that a professional renovation was in order and engaged Winstar Tey from Noble Interior Design to do the job, handing over their Pinterest boards to trigger the designer’s inspiration. The result is a warm and cosy yet minimalist home with a spacious layout that truly makes the most of the home’s square footage.

Dining and kitchen
The dining and kitchen area instantly strikes a fine balance between modern and cosy as one enters the home, contrasting warm tones with marble tiles and glossy textures. The cabinets further mirror this balance; the top row was clad in wood-look Arova laminates while the bottom row was covered in solid white fronts from Catalyste. For a spacious feel, the kitchen walls were hacked away, making for an entirely open cooking area that packs plenty of storage space. An interesting detail in this space is the false ceiling, which was lowered dramatically in order to hide an unsightly structural beam above the dining table. Thanks to the skilful design, this modification is not distracting and instead blends in seamlessly with the surroundings.
Living area
Furnished with a contemporary TV console and coffee table from Castlery, the living room was styled through clever team work; while the homeowners went out and about to do their furniture shopping, the designer had his phone ready in hand to recommend the most suitable picks along the way. Soft strip lighting now casts a gentle glow over the furnishings and glossy tiles for an extra warm and welcoming ambience.
Bedroom
Originally split into two smaller bedrooms, the designer hacked part of the wall to create a larger master suite that also accommodates the couple’s home office. The elegant archway still allows some segregation between the sleeping quarters and workzone, the subtle splash of paint along the arched edges making this feature a true highlight of the flat. Another eye-catching element is the wooden tones along the bed frame and nightstand, which mesh particularly well with the taupe hue of the curtains.
Bathroom
In order to match the sleek and cosy theme of the house, the bathroom floors and walls were overlaid with a mix of dark wood-look and creamy stone-look tiles. This not only lends the space a down-to-earth ambience but also naturally demarcates the wet and dry areas. While these design features exude elegance in and of themselves, it is the custom-built cabinet topped with a gorgeous, cream-toned marble slab that takes the cake in this sophisticated bathroom.
